How This Was Made

CNC machining is a manufacturing process that involves the use of computerized numerical control (CNC) machines to create parts and components with precise measurements. In the case of the Alpaca Smacka hammer handle, the handle is designed and programmed into the CNC machine.

The machine then uses high-speed cutting tools to shape and form the handle from a solid piece of material, such as hickory.

The CNC machine is programmed to follow precise measurements and specifications, ensuring that each handle is identical and meets the desired specifications.

This process eliminates manual labour, resulting in a more efficient and precise manufacturing process.

The handle is then sanded and finished with boiled linseed oil to provide a comfortable grip and durable coating.

Care Instructions

1. Cleaning: To clean the handle, wipe it down with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using water or any cleaning solutions that contain harsh chemicals, as they can damage the wood.

2. Conditioning: To keep the wood from drying out and cracking, it’s important to oil the handle periodically. Use food-grade mineral oil or boiled linseed oil and apply it to the handle using a soft cloth. Wipe off any excess oil to avoid attracting dirt and dust.

3. Storage: Store the handle in a cool, dry place to prevent warping or to crack. If storing for an extended period, wrap the handle in a protective cloth or place it in a protective case.

4. Maintenance: Check the handle regularly for any cracks or splits. If you notice any damage, have the handle repaired by a professional to ensure its longevity.

5. Avoid Exposure: Avoid exposing the handle to extreme temperatures, humidity, and direct sunlight to prevent damage.

Following these instructions, you can keep your wooden handle in excellent condition and prolong its lifespan.
